Lead Search

lead-search

Find and discover high-quality B2B leads using advanced search filters—job titles, industries, locations, company size, and more.

What is Lead Search?

Lead Search is a powerful B2B lead discovery tool that helps you find decision-makers at target companies using advanced filtering. Instead of manually prospecting on LinkedIn or buying questionable lead lists, Lead Search queries a massive database of verified professionals—filtered by your ideal customer profile.

Lead Search enables:

  • Multi-Criteria Filtering: Job titles, industries, locations, seniority, company size, revenue, technologies
  • Preset Templates: Quick-start searches for common personas (Tech Executives, SaaS Founders, Marketing Leaders)
  • Real-Time Results: Asynchronous search with progress tracking
  • Duplicate Prevention: Automatically filters out leads already in your CRM
  • Direct CRM Import: Add discovered leads to your project with one click
  • Search History: Access and re-run your last 50 searches

Each search costs 0.25 quota and runs in the background—returning results in 30-120 seconds depending on filter complexity.

4

Review Quota Before Searching

Before clicking "Search Leads", verify you have sufficient quota.

Quota information:

  • Cost per search: 0.25 quota
  • Quota type: SEO Research bucket (shared with SEO tools)
  • Remaining quota: Displayed in quota progress bar
  • Quota warning: Red indicator if quota < 0.25

If quota insufficient:

  1. Upgrade plan: Click "Upgrade Plan" link
  2. Purchase add-on: Buy additional quota credits
  3. Wait for reset: Some plans have monthly quota resets

  4. Stores search record in history
  5. Returns results

  • Very specific searches (6+ filters): 90-120 seconds
  • Timeout: Maximum 120 seconds

Search Best Practices

Effective Search Strategies

Start broad, then narrow:

  1. Begin with 1-2 filters (e.g., job title + industry)
  2. Review result count
  3. Add more filters if too many results
  4. Remove filters if too few results

Combine complementary filters:

  • Job Title + Seniority: "Marketing" + "VP" = Marketing VPs only
  • Industry + Location: "SaaS" + "United States" = US SaaS companies
  • Company Size + Revenue: "11-50" + "$1M-$5M" = Small companies with revenue

Use multiple values per filter:

  • Job Titles: ["CEO", "Founder", "Co-Founder"] = Any of these titles
  • Locations: ["California", "New York", "Texas"] = Any of these states
  • Industries: ["Technology", "SaaS", "Software"] = Any of these industries

Persona-Based Searching

Example 1: Early-Stage SaaS Founders

  • Job Titles: "Founder", "Co-Founder", "CEO"
  • Industries: "SaaS", "Software"
  • Company Size: "1-10", "11-20"
  • Locations: "United States"
  • Result: ~200-500 leads

Example 2: Enterprise Marketing Leaders

  • Job Titles: "VP Marketing", "CMO", "Marketing Director"
  • Seniority: "C-Suite", "VP"
  • Company Size: "1,001-5,000", "5,001-10,000", "10,001+"
  • Industries: "Technology", "SaaS"
  • Result: ~100-300 leads

Example 3: E-commerce Operations Managers

  • Job Titles: "Operations Manager", "COO"
  • Industries: "E-commerce", "Retail"
  • Company Size: "51-100", "101-500"
  • Technologies: "Shopify", "WooCommerce"
  • Result: ~150-400 leads

Quota Optimization

Maximize value per search:

  • Test small searches (1-2 filters) first to gauge result quality
  • Once you find good criteria, save as preset
  • Avoid "fishing expedition" searches (too broad, low relevance)
  • Focus on high-intent personas (decision-makers with budget authority)

Budget-conscious strategies:

  • Run 1-2 targeted searches/week vs. 10 random searches
  • Import all relevant leads from each search before running next
  • Use search history to avoid re-running same criteria
  • Combine with other lead sources (website visitors, referrals)

Troubleshooting

No Results Found (0 Leads)

Problem: Search completes but returns 0 results

Causes & Solutions:

1. Filters too narrow

  • Try removing 1-2 filters
  • Expand geographic filter ("California" → "United States")
  • Use broader job title ("VP Marketing" → "Marketing")

2. Unusual filter combination

  • Some combinations have no matches (e.g., "Blockchain" + "Healthcare" + "Iowa")
  • Test each filter individually to identify problematic ones

3. Spelling errors

  • Check company names and job titles for typos
  • Try variations: "VP" vs. "Vice President", "CMO" vs. "Chief Marketing Officer"

4. Niche industry/role

  • Very specific roles may have <10 people globally
  • Broaden industry or seniority filters

Search Timeout (>120 seconds)

Problem: Search exceeds 120-second timeout and fails

Causes & Solutions:

1. Too many filters (6+ filters)

B2B Leads Database API queries become complex with many filters

Reduce to 3

5 filters max

2. API rate limiting

  • Rare, but our Partner B2B Database may throttle requests
  • Wait 5 minutes and retry

3. Network issues

  • Check your internet connection
  • Retry search

All Results Are Existing Leads

Problem: Search returns 100% "Existing Entries" (all duplicates)

Explanation: You've already imported all leads matching these criteria

Solutions:

1. Refine criteria

  • Add new filter (different location, industry, or seniority)
  • Change job titles to adjacent roles

2. Expand target Ideal Customer Profile (ICP)

If you've exhausted your current ICP, consider adjacent personas

Example: If all "Marketing VPs" imported, try "Marketing Directors"

Example: If all "Marketing VPs" imported, try "Marketing Directors"

3. Wait and retry later

  • B2B Leads Database database updates weekly with new professionals
  • Retry same search in 2-4 weeks for fresh results

Low Email Availability (<30%)

Problem: Many results lack email addresses

Explanation: Email availability varies by seniority, industry, company size

Factors affecting email availability:

C-Suite: 20-40% email availability

Enterprise companies: Lower availability

Startups: Higher availability

Solutions:

1. Adjust seniority target

  • Target Directors instead of C-Suite for higher email availability

2. Use LinkedIn outreach

3. Enrich leads post-import

  • Import leads, then use enrichment tools to find emails
  • FiveBucks has lead enrichment features (see Lead Enrichment docs)

Quota Exceeded Error

Problem: "Insufficient quota" error when clicking "Search Leads"

Immediate solutions:

1. Check quota balance

  • View quota progress bar (need ≥0.25 remaining)
  • Calculate: Remaining quota ÷ 0.25 = Number of searches left

2. Upgrade plan

  • Click "Upgrade Plan" link
  • Higher tiers include more monthly quota

3. Purchase add-on quota

  • Buy quota credits in billing settings
  • Credits roll over month-to-month

4. Wait for quota reset

  • Some plans reset quota monthly
  • Check your billing cycle
